We live in a world that moves at incredible speeds and, of course, nowhere is this more obvious than in the business world. Whether you are a CEO in a high rise building or whether you are the worker actually responsible for constructing that building, you and your staff certainly work under harsh circumstances, tight budgets and ridiculously tighter deadlines.
Due to these types of working conditions, security and safety precautions have become more important and crucial than ever before. Being responsible for the safety of your crew, while out on the field working a job can be a huge burden and one, that no employer or employee should take lightly. However, the reality is that many employees do not take the necessary time or steps to ensure their own safety, especially if they are working in high altitude areas, where adequate fall protection measures must exist and be duly enforced.
Unfortunately, the Foreman or boss does not have time to monitor each and every employee, to make sure that they follow the guidelines, as this would be incredibly costly in time, resources and, more specifically, money. This means that “automatic” safeguards and safety products are the only logical and cost efficient way of ensuring that your employees are secure and that your projects get done on time and on budget, or hopefully under budget.
Let’s face it, accidents and deaths on the job site are obviously horrible occurrences that, unfortunately, happen too often and, once the shock has worn off, getting the rest of your team to rally and “get the job done” becomes an almost impossible task. Not only are moral and human emotions touched, but, often, deep fears (will this happen to me?) and superstitions are often triggered, leaving you with a crew that can no longer produce adequately. Quickly enough, this will translate into lost hours, lost men and a heavy loss financially. Of course, having to deal with OSHA and the various safety and security boards, not to mention the host of insurance papers and representatives that you will have to tangle with.
OSHA is more than doubling the average fine this year, so DO NOT wait until you are in the horrible position of having to say “I should have…” Take responsibility now, while you still can.
